Experience fly fishing Rio Molini in South Tyrol. Dry fly action in a “Heidi-like” valley and overnight stays at Lake Neves. A true alpine escape.
Fly fishing Rio Molini (Mühlwalder Bach) feels like stepping directly into a scene from “Heidi.” Nestled in the pristine Selva dei Molini Valley, this stream offers the quintessential alpine experience: lush green meadows, snow-capped peaks, and crystal-clear water tumbling over granite stones. It is the perfect destination for anglers seeking beauty, relaxation, and fast-paced action.
The Stream: Fast Action on Dry Flies
The Rio Molini is a textbook alpine creek characterized by “pocket water.”
The Catch: It holds healthy populations of Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout. These fish are strong, acclimated to the fast current, and incredibly eager to rise.
The Technique: Leave the heavy nymphs at home. This is Dry Fly territory. Casting buoyant flies into the pockets and riffles guarantees explosive takes. It is technically engaging but incredibly fun—a “high stick” dry fly paradise.
The Lake Neves Retreat: The Ultimate Coup de Soir
For an extraordinary getaway, we extend the adventure to the head of the valley at Lake Neves (Neves-Stausee), sitting at 1,860 meters (6,100 ft). I recommend spending a night in a cozy mountain cabin right by the lake. This allows you to experience the magic of the evening rise (the “coup de soir”). Imagine casting to rising trout as the sun sets over the glaciers, surrounding you with absolute silence and tranquility.
A Tailored Multi-Day Adventure
The adventure doesn’t have to end in one day. This valley is ideal for a two-day retreat. After a night at the lake, we can switch it up the next day, exploring different sections of the Rio Molini or moving to nearby waters in the Aurina Valley. Whether you are a seasoned angler wanting to relax or a beginner looking for lots of action, this picturesque region offers a new reward around every bend.
