Today’s memory takes us to one of the most technical valleys in Alto Adige. The strategy here is clear: we mostly work with Euro Nymphing to probe every run. But you have to stay sharp.
A change in light or a sudden hatch is all it takes to transform the day, gifting us spectacular catches on dry flies. Reading the river and adapting is the key to success here.

Today, the conditions looked perfect: the first day of sun and clear water after a week of rain. I had the pleasure of sharing this day with Marshall from Washington 🇺🇸.
And yet, fishing can be unpredictable. Despite the favorable weather, we didn’t see a single fish.
But the true measure of an angler is their mindset, and Marshall’s is simply excellent. Kind, positive, and happy just to be on the water.
Even though the trout weren’t cooperating, the day gave us something rare: the privilege of fishing a new river and witnessing a massive caddis hatch, the likes of which I haven’t seen in a long time. Sometimes the joy isn’t in the catch, but in the simple act of being there. It was an honor, Marshall.
