Bierstube Oberweger: A Local Guide’s Tip in South Tyrol

More Than a Brewery: Why Oberweger in Kollmann Feels Like Home

My job as a guide doesn’t end on the riverbank. The real experience, the kind that leaves a lasting impression, is also made of moments, flavors, and people. And when my clients ask for a tip on where to finish a memorable day, there’s a place in Kollmann, just a stone’s throw from my home, that I recommend from the heart: the Bierstube Oberweger.

This isn’t just a restaurant. It’s my go-to spot, an inn with a Tyrolean soul where the hospitality is genuine and the dishes warm the heart.

The Perfect Spot After a Day of Fishing in the Isarco Valley

Picture this: you’ve spent the day casting your fly line in the crystal-clear waters of the Isarco (Eisack) River, or perhaps searching for the perfect marble trout in the Tinne (Tinnebach) or Ega (Eggentaler Bach) streams. You have that good kind of tired, the one that comes with deep satisfaction. At that very moment, the Oberweger becomes the ideal destination. Its strategic location in the Isarco Valley (Eisacktal) makes it the perfect “base camp” to recharge after your adventure.

Inside, a True Tyrolean Inn; Outside, a Dreamy Terrace

As soon as you cross the threshold, you can breathe in the tradition. The wooden interiors, the warm atmosphere, and the chance to play a game of darts make you feel immediately at ease. But it’s in the summer that the Oberweger reveals its crown jewel: a stunning terrace with comfortable wicker armchairs, shaded by a white awning that looks like a ship’s sail. It’s my favorite corner for a sunset beer.

The Hospitality of Cristian, Mene, and Melli

What makes a place truly special are the people. The owner, Cristian, is not only an excellent chef (along with his son) but also a brilliant beer sommelier. Ask him for a recommendation, and he’ll open up a new world for you. You’ll almost always be greeted by Domenico, known as Mene, the first person I met here. He’s an incredibly friendly guy, always in traditional Tyrolean attire, and it’s a pleasure to chat and joke with him. And then there’s Melli, a sunny and charming young woman whose friendliness wins everyone over. Together, they create a relaxed, family-like atmosphere.

My Recommendations From the Menu

The selection of beers, both bottled and on tap, is vast, but you can also find excellent wines. But let’s get to the point: the food. Cristian prepares dishes you can count on, with recipes that also change with the seasons. My two all-time favorite dishes, the ones I always recommend, are:

  • The Pork Shank (Stinco di Maiale): Roasted to perfection, tender, and flavorful. A timeless classic.
  • The Goulash: Rich, hearty, and served just as tradition dictates. Perfect after a day outdoors.

Useful Information: How to Get There and Book

The brewery is located in Kollmann (Colma), in the province of Bolzano, and is very easy to reach. It also has a large parking lot, which is a significant plus.
