The Mother of the Isarco River
At the base of the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo, you’ll find three small alpine lakes that give birth to the Rienza River. The waters flow down through the Rienza Nera Valley (Schwarze Rienz), nestled between Monte Piana and Monte Rudo. The river then enters the Val di Landro, passing through the stunning Lake Landro and Lake Dobbiaco, before making its way into the Val Pusteria near Dobbiaco. The Rienza continues westward through this picturesque valley, winding through key towns like Brunico, before joining the Isarco River in Bressanone at an altitude of 550 meters, completing its 90-kilometer journey.
A Challenge for Expert Anglers
The Rienza River is known as the most challenging river in South Tyrol, perfect for seasoned anglers looking to test their skills. It’s an excellent river for streamer and nymph fishing but less ideal for those who prefer dry fly techniques. For the best experience, it’s recommended to fish here on weekends, as the water levels can fluctuate due to dam operations.
Ideal for Streamer and Nymph Fishing
With its diverse fish population and changing conditions, the Rienza River offers a unique challenge for experienced fishermen. It’s a fantastic spot for those looking to engage in streamer and nymph fishing, offering both a technical and rewarding experience.
