Discover the Beauty of the Passirio River in the Dolomites of Trentino-Alto Adige

The Passirio River, known as Passer in German, originates near the Timmelsjoch Pass in the enchanting region of South Tyrol and flows for 46.2 kilometers through the picturesque Val Passiria before merging with the Adige River near Merano. My favorite fishing spot along the Passirio is the area around St. Martin-St. Leonhard, situated in the upper valley.

From a fly fishing perspective, the Passirio River stands out for its abundant water flow during the warmer months and its torrent-like character, with boulders creating deep pools and strong currents. Here, you’ll find an abundance of rainbow trout as well as magnificent specimens of marble and brown trout. The crystal-clear waters of the Passirio offer excellent opportunities for fly fishing, including dry fly fishing for rainbows and the use of streamers and nymphs to catch the prized marble trout.

Nestled in a lush and pristine valley, the Passirio River offers a unique fly fishing experience in one of South Tyrol’s most captivating landscapes. Fly fishermen will appreciate the challenge presented by the large rainbows and swift currents, which will test their gear and fighting skills.

The fishing season on the Passirio runs from April 1st to October 31st, providing anglers with a generous timeframe to enjoy this thrilling experience.

After a fulfilling day of fishing, you’ll have the chance to relax in a local Stube, savoring a delicious craft beer and fresh pizzas to top off your day.
